Task Troopers Launches New Website, Reopens Free Laptop Program for 2026-27 School Year
Nonprofit introduces upgraded verification system and expanded eligibility as it prepares to distribute laptops across the South Florida Tri-County area
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 3, 2026 — Task Troopers, a Broward County-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to closing the digital divide across South Florida, today announced the launch of its newly redesigned website and the reopening of its flagship Free Laptop Program (FLP) for the 2026-27 school year.
The new site, live now at tasktroopers.org, consolidates all of Task Troopers' programs and resources into a single, unified platform. As part of the transition, the organization's blog, Trooper Times, has moved into the new site as well and remains accessible at its existing address, blog.tasktroopers.org, so readers can continue following along without interruption.
Free Laptop Program Reopens August 3
Applications for the Free Laptop Program open Monday, August 3, and will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis. Applicants should expect a decision, either approval or denial, within up to three months of submitting a complete application.
The program remains open to students in grades K-12 across the greater South Florida Tri-County area, encompassing Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
New Verification Requirements
To strengthen the security and integrity of the application process, and to remain fully aligned with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Task Troopers has implemented a new automated identity and application verification system for the 2026-27 cycle. As part of this update, applicants are now required to verify their email address before an application can be submitted, a new step designed to protect student privacy and ensure every application is accurately processed.
A Statement from Task Troopers Founder and Founder
"Every laptop we deliver represents a real student in the community who might go on to change the world, and that mission hasn't changed in the two years we've been doing this work," said Max Bratter, Founder and President of Task Troopers. "What has changed is how we protect the families who trust us with their information. This new site and verification system let us serve more students across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties while holding ourselves to a higher standard of privacy and security than ever before. We're proud to reopen the Free Laptop Program today, and we're just as excited for families across South Florida to see the new tasktroopers.org."
