We Need 12 Beta Testers to Get the Task Troopers App on Google Play
The Task Troopers app is already live on iOS. The Android version is built, tested internally, and ready to go. There is just one thing standing between it and the Google Play Store, and it is something we cannot do alone.
The short version
Google requires new developer accounts to run a closed test with at least 12 testers who stay opted in for 14 consecutive days before the app can be published publicly. Not 12 downloads. Not 12 people who try it once. Twelve people who opt in, keep the app installed, and stay in the test for two full weeks.
If you have an Android phone or tablet and fifteen minutes of curiosity, you can be one of them.
What being a beta tester actually involves
We want to be honest about the commitment, because a tester who drops out on day 9 resets progress for everyone.
What we need from you:
An Android device (phone or tablet) and a Google account
Accept our test invitation and install the app from the Play Store link we send
Leave the app installed for the full 14 days
Open it a few times and use it the way you normally would
What we do not need:
Formal bug reports or technical write-ups
Daily use, or any specific amount of use
Any personal information beyond the Google account email required to join the test
That is genuinely it. If something breaks or feels confusing, tell us. If nothing breaks, tell us that too. Both are useful.
Why this matters for our mission
Task Troopers exists to close the digital literacy gap in Broward County. The Free Laptop Program is the most visible piece of that work, but hardware is only half of the equation. The app is how families check the status of a laptop request, find support resources, and reach us without having to navigate a maze of forms and phone numbers.
Right now, anyone in our community on an Android device is locked out of that. Android holds a significant share of the devices in the households we serve, and in many cases it is the only device in the home. Publishing to Google Play is not a nice-to-have for us. It is the difference between reaching a family and not reaching them.
The 14-day window is a Google policy, not ours. But clearing it takes real people volunteering real time, and that is where our community comes in.
How to sign up
Fill out the short form here: https://tally.so/r/2EYAZD
You will get an email confirming shortly after. Once you accept and install, you are in.
Questions before you commit? Email us at support@tasktroopers.org and we will answer honestly, including about anything the app does with your data.
One more ask
If you know someone with an Android device who would be willing to help, forward this to them. We need 12 testers to clear the requirement, and we would rather have 18 signed up than 11 and a countdown clock we have to restart.
Thank you for helping us get this over the line.
